Setup
Practically any setup will work if you have full heroic raid gear, but a few classes are outstanding over the others for certain reasons:

Tank
*Preferably a Warrior or Paladin.
*Their block helps a lot with the fact that you’ll be tanking multiple adds at the same time and will reduce the need for healers to spamheal, thus losing mana and time.
*Pick your tank carefully. A tank sets the pace and if he’s a slowpoke, you’ll end up not making it, even if execution is perfect.

WoW Gold Guide: How to price Cataclysm glyphs

Posted by: free-wow-guide   in WoW Gold Guides, WoW Professions

by Basil Berntsen

Glyph pricing has ignited more internet arguments than any other topic in the WoWblogosphere. Everyone has their own method, and there’s always someone who gets offended by it. There is no actual right answer, just basic economics.

The goal of any glyph strategy is to make gold, and the only sensible way to measure gold making is by calculating your profits per hour. The glyph lifecycle is herb > pigment > ink > glyph. There can be a lot of hours in that, so let’s look at the best way to squeeze some gold from them.

1This is it, the twilight of Nefarian’s rule. You’ve come a long way, bursting through the front gate, smashing to bits the doormen, foiling an attempted annelid home invasion, trashing Maloriak’s lab, and kicking the… let’s call it the dog.

All that remains between you and the main event is Nef’s blind progeny and a short leap into a fiery pit. To help you prepare for the challenge of facing down the son of Deathwing, I’ll give you a slew of tips to maximize your survivability against the big guy, as he throws vicious electrical attacks, bursts of shadowflame, or a small army of risen corpses your way.

WoW Raiding Guide: On damage meters

Posted by: free-wow-guide   in WoW Addons, WoW Raiding Guides

by Tyler Caraway

People love their meters; people hate their meters. Many of us would love to play in a game where such things didn’t exist, while the same number would probably make them required. What’s a player to do?

Why meters are unimportant

Before diving headlong into how it is that I disagree with Mr. Gray, I would first like to reiterate how I do agree with him. There are far too many people who cling to damage meters in this current day and age, and they do so without the aptitude or proper knowledge of how to properly utilize them.

WoW Patch 4.2 Daily Quests: Assault on Sethria’s Roost

Posted by: free-wow-guide   in WoW Quest Guide

by Alex Ziebart

Once you’ve sufficiently advanced the Firelands storyline to the point that you can enter the Molten Front, the Regrowth portion of patch 4.2′s daily quests breaks into two types of quests. The first type is a small daily quest chain. You do some gathering, and then you use what you’ve gathered to kill an elite.

The other type of quests are simpler, one-shot quests that can occasionally be organized into even smaller hubs. The kill-and-collect daily quest that sends you into Sethria’s Roost, which we’ll be talking about today, is quite nice when it shows up, because it can be completed alongside The Protectors of Hyjal which you’ll be doing regularly. The quests we will be looking at today are:

WoW Addon Guide: Utilities with Bliky

Posted by: free-wow-guide   in WoW Addons

by Mathew McCurley

Sometimes, a guildmate or Mumble compatriot will fire off some addons that they find particularly useful. One such compatriot is hunter extraordinaire and begrudging worgen Bliky. We have a special relationship; Bliky gives me misdirects, and I send him awful and weird whispers. It’s a balanced relationship.

When I asked Bliky for a few of his favorite addon utilities that might be able to help out my readers, he was happy to oblige, since he scours my columns each and every week to see if I made another terrible hunter joke about him. No, there will be no hunter jokes or snipes today. Instead, I will celebrate these recommendations, since they are some pretty cool utilities that everyone can benefit from.

Try to understand the battle as a whole

First of all, thanks for a well-thought out question, Veni. I’ve actually gotten quite a lot of questions about this very subject in the past two weeks, so I’m pleased to see it’s an interesting topic for a lot of people.

Most of it has to do with knowing a ton about the big picture. Keeping a big view of the battle has always been one of my strongest characteristics (although I have far more numerous weak ones, mind you). Being able to figure out quickly what the enemy team wants to do is why my teammates usually want me to call out targets (which I don’t like doing but begrudgingly end up agreeing to anyway).

I care a lot less about exactly what cooldowns have been popped than I do about what the enemy team’s next move is. A lot of people base decisions off what cooldowns are available to both teams, but that’s usually an unnecessarily complex and narrow way of viewing an arena battle. So how do I tell what an enemy’s next move is? Well, it’s pretty simple — you just look at health bars while keeping an eye on position.

Area of effect damage has long been a thorn in the side of enhancement shaman. Through all of The Burning Crusade, we had no Maelstrom Weapon. Any Chain Lightnings we wanted to use had to be hard cast, which also meant giving up our auto-attacks for 1.5 seconds.Magma Totem was our premiere form of AOE damage, even though it was a stationary totem that ticked for extremely lackluster damage over 20 seconds.

To make things worse, until Wrath of the Lich King’s patch 3.2, our Fire Nova ability was actually Fire Nova Totem. This was a totem you dropped that waited 5 seconds and then exploded and despawned. The only time this was ever not a DPS loss was if you dropped it 4 seconds before adds reached you and it exploded as they got into range. Magma Totem was higher damage per second during those 5 seconds than Fire Nova Totem, but it still rendered us the lowest area of effect damage-dealer in the game.

We talked about the entry-level bosses of Blackwing Descent, Magmaw and the Omnotron Council, and how to burst your way through them to open the gate standing between your raid and the Vault of the Shadowflame. With those two entry-level bosses out of your way, it’s time for the meat and potatoes of the dungeon.

Between you and the Son of Deathwing are three more obstacles — the architect of Blackwing’s minions and the two horrible creatures he has forged. The fights themselves aren’t terribly difficult, but they will test various parts of your tanking skill set, whether it be situational awareness, cooldown management, or add dancing. In this post, I’ll go over the next two fights in exquisite detail, pointing out little tips that you can use to maximize your tanking prowess against Maloriak and Chimaeron, in order to set you up for the final two fights: Atramedes and Nefarian himself.

Many of the mounts this week be familiar to you.

Also read:

Albino Drake

This debuted in the Wrath of the Lich King content patch with the new achievement system, if I recall correctly. At the time, it was a pretty tall order for any given character to reach the 50 mounts necessary to get it, and the achievement was subject to a lot of irritation from the players of certain unlucky races that couldn’t ride a huge percentage of the game’s mounts.
