We discussed the basics of death knight tanking, including finding your perfect spec and figuring out which stats to aim for. This week, we’re taking it one step further. Once you’re all geared up, you need to put the finishing touches on your gear. Today, we’ll look at how you can use gems, reforging, and enchants to bump your tank gear up to the next level.
Gemming: Stamina vs. mastery
There is some debate over whether stamina or mastery takes priority in gemming. As we discussed a bit last week, stamina’s not as powerful as it once was, thanks in part to the huge health pools of the Cataclysm era. Myself, I tend to fall on the side of gemming for mastery, except in cases where a slot bonus looks juicy enough to aim for. For the most part, I’d recommend against gemming for threat. You can take care of hit and expertise rating with reforging if you really need it.

We discussed some of the gearing options available for restoration shaman as you are getting raid-ready. With the exceptions of a few pieces of gear — bracers, for example — there are a lot of choices to help get you ready for your first raid nights.
We also talked about your first few goals for stats, namely spirit and haste, as well as your stat priority. Today we’re going to talk a little bit more in depth about stats as well as enchanting and gemming your gear.
Before we get started, just like last week, keep in mind that this is for the start of your raiding experience. This is not the best in slot list or heavy endgame theorycrafting. This is a list of available options and some suggestions for starting shaman before setting foot in a raid.

Gather 10 Wildhammer Food Stores from the Thundermar Ruins.
Description
Supplies are short, <name>. We’ve got refugees coming into Thundermar from up and down the ridge – that’s a lot of mouths to feed.
Plenty of food stores were left behind as people pulled their families to safety. We need that food!
Scour the Thundermar ruins south, east, and southwest of here for food stores.
Careful, <class>! The fighting around the ruins is pretty intense.
Your looking for meat hanging on walls or on the floor.
The best location to do is starting at 53 x 28. Check outside the buildings here and also inside/down in the cellar. Working your way down the road heading South / West and doing the same when approaching buildings along the road.

Noblegarden will end right around the time that Children’s Week begins, and you’ve got from Sunday, May 1, until Sunday, May 8, to get everything you need. Check your in-game calendar to see your realm’s exact start and end times.
The Children’s Week achievements and the meta For The Children are part of the year-long What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been, so you will want to get these done if you’re working toward a Violet Proto-Drake. Fortunately for you, there are only six achievements associated with the meta and seven with the holiday itself.

I’ve had this idea for a social experiment in my head for the past few weeks, where you lock five priests together in a room with nothing but Highland Spirits and force them to have a round table discussion about Lightwell. While I work on my hypothesis and proposal — and find a way to bait Fox Van Allen into this possum trap — you guys can finish reading up on the finer points of healing Cho’gall as a holy or discipline priest. Seeing as this is the last boss of The Bastion of Twilight, this will be the final installment of Spiritual Guidance’s priest healing guides for this tier.

This isn’t the first time I’ve written about undercutting, and it won’t be the last. The burning question of how much to undercut is something that just keeps coming up, not unlike the question of which pet is the best for the DPS.
If you ask people who don’t sell on the AH, they’ll give you a blank stare and make some comment about having a guildie craft it. If you ask an auctioneer with less than 100k, they’ll say to never undercut more than a copper. To properly answer this question, we need to try and understand the effect that undercutting has on the market you’re in.

Refugees are pouring into Thundermar from all of the torched Wildhammer settlements around us, and I put Fanny in charge of ‘em. She’s tough as talons, that one. But she might need your help.
Fanny is not actually in the Inn.. rather the second building to the left as you’re facing the Inn. Through the door directly on the right, hiding in the corner..
