You know all of the gear that you want to get out of heroics. You know that you need to get your one random heroic done each day. But you are constantly finding yourself struggling to get through the instances that you are placed in. Don’t fret; this is actually a fairly common experience, even for those players who have done more heroics than they would have liked to by this point. Even when I do random PUGs, things can get rough. Sometimes the tank and/or healer is undergeared; sometimes the players are just new to the instance and don’t quite have the feel for how things work.
There are a lot of things that can go wrong in a Cataclysm heroic dungeon, and anyone stepping into them should be prepared to wipe multiple times no matter how prepared they are. However, there are things that you as a balance druid can do to make any heroic instance you run more smoothly. Sometimes it’s through CC, sometimes it’s through knowing what does what, and sometimes it’s by making use of every single tool that you have in your toolbox. This week is the first of a two-part series explaining in detail how balance druids can best assist their groups in heroics.

Mages, I can even understand it when you don’t sheep things. Polymorph doesn’t do any damage; in fact it heals its target! Why would you want to use a spell that doesn’t blow things up when there are so many other delightful spells in your spellbook that do? It seems counter to everything we got into magecraft for.
Wrath was a long expansion. For the better part of two years, we spent the majority of our time chain pulling and AoE-farming our way through every instance in sight, concentrating on one thing and one thing only: DPS. Recount gave us a number at the end of every boss fight, and if that number was higher than the warlock’s number, we had done a good job. Sure, the fights sometimes had mechanics we needed to pay attention to, but they mostly involved moving from one place to stand and shoot to another place to stand and shoot. We forgot a very important part of our jobs as mages.
We forgot how to sheep.

20+ mounts have been added, below i will explain how each one is obtained.
Achievements: (These mounts can only be obtained through the completion of an achievement)

Golden King Or Kor’Kron Annihilator-
These mounts can be purchased for 1,200G upon your Guild reaching Level 25.
These mounts are in my opinion the coolest in the expansion as they just look fantastic. Not easily obtainable as for your guild to reach level 25 it will take some time and alot of team work. Also you must be exalted with your guild to be able to purchase the mount. The math suggests that it will take 137 days (or 4.5 months) of hitting your guild’s daily experience cap in order to reach guild level 25.

You need to recover 4 Stacks of Cannonballs from Largo’s Overlook for Sergeant Gray. You can find Largo’s Overlook just northeast of the base camp.
Description
Largo and his minions have been stealing our supplies ever since we setup camp here. It’s frustrating to say the least.
We have heard reports that he is stockpiling cannonballs in the towers overlooking the water up on his overlook. Can you head up there and try to recover some of them for us?
<name>, don’t forget to keep a watch out for horde too.

Destroy 10 Ghastly Supply Boats.
Description
The Wellson Shipyard is constantly receiving supplies from offshore and we need to put a stop to it. They have setup cannons along the docks for defense but if you can make it to them, we can use them to destroy their supply ships.
Head over there and see what you can do. Report back to me on your progress.

Collect 4 Sticky Silk Glands from Darkwood Broodmother spiders in The Darkwood. The Darkwood forest is just west of here, across the bridge on the central island.
Description
Finding supplies on the island has been difficult, to say the least.
Fortunately, we have found a good supply of silk in The Darkwood, just west of here. The bad part of this story is that the silk comes from the glands on Broodmother spiders. I need you to gather 4 of these for me.
That should be just enough to finish up this last set of shirts.

I did this as a Fire Mage, but any class with mobile DPS should be able to do this

First thing you must get is a Range mod, something which tells you how far away the target is. The Whale Shark is so big it’s almost impossible to guess. I used RangeFinder from Curse, this is crude, but it works.
Next you need patience, I tried searching for but got bored and annoyed so I stopped.
The Whale Shark swims very slowly, you can outrun him by swimming backwards (can you see where this is going?) You must stay between 5 & 20 Yards away. If he hits you, he will 1-shot you! I think on my first attempt he hit me for about 500k.

This week, I’ll be covering which heroics to queue for and which justice point rewards to prioritize.
For this list, I assigned priority to heroics that drop weapons and trinkets. On average, weapon upgrades are any melee class’s best friend, as weapon DPS generally has a significantly higher stat weight than any other stat on equipment. Trinkets have ridiculously high passive bonuses and have procs that outweigh most secondary statistics on a given piece of gear. After weapons and trinkets, slight priority was given to helms due to their meta socket in the hope that Blizzard fixes Chaotic Shadowspirit Diamond’s requirements soon. Finally, every other item was weighted based purely on its stat combinations, using the same stat weights as my reputation post last week.
Spellpower weapons are included on this list, as there is still some theorycrafting that suggests they’re better than 2.6 speed agility main hands for DPS. These did not affect heroic priority, as the theorycrafting isn’t validated yet and the weapons might be nerfed into oblivion tomorrow. Also, as much as I condone min-maxing your DPS, I never condone stealing a spellpower weapon from a healer or caster.

This week, we start our look into the gear available through normal dungeons and heroics for both DPS and tanks. Because this is a lot of ground to cover, we’ll probably need to take a couple of weeks to really go over it all. We’re going to look at non-heroic gear first before moving on to stuff from heroics, since you have to crawl before you can walk and all.
Remember our previous guide to faction gear? That’s basically how we’re going to approach this, listing pieces in each dungeon. While you may make use of an agility cape, jewelry or weapon, since they’re not optimal for warriors, I’m not listing them unless there’s a compelling reason to do so. (For instance, I’ll list ranged weapons with agility, since it’s hard to find a strength ranged weapon.) The gear in these dungeons tends to range from iLevel 308 and up, so keep it in mind when you’re trying to build your set for heroics that you need iLevel 329 on average to get in the door.
